In 1-1 sessions, I'll work with your horse to address their fears using gentle techniques. Sessions are tailored to their individual needs, focusing on building confidence while respecting their pace and comfort level.

Why should I desensitise my horse?
Desensitising your horse to objects they find intimidating is vital for the safety of both horse and rider. Since a horse's natural instinct is to flee, these sessions aim to promote a attitude, encouraging them to investigate rather avoid the object or situation.
Desensitising can help with routine procedures: vet checks, clipping, farrier and dentist visits...
Not all horses can be fully 'bomb-proof' because of past negative experiences. Nevertheless, reducing their reactions and enhancing their tolerance is a safer option than potentially causing an injury.
Common items horses can be afraid of: water from a hose, clippers, flags, plastic bags, loud sounds, umbrellas...
What is flooding and why should it be avoided?
Flooding is a technique where individuals overwhelm a horse with stimuli, typically in a situation where the horse can't escape, such as attaching a tarpaulin to its saddle in a confined space, before the horse is ready for that level of exposure. This approach can lead to a horse shutting down, which may eventually result in aggression or depression.
Instead, I prefer to use methods that build trust.
